Why Airwallex is buying Paynuri Co. Ltd.

Airwallex said the licences give it a foundation to help Korean companies expand abroad and to let global businesses operate in Korea. It pointed to demand from e-commerce, creative industries and entertainment-driven exports, and said Korea extends an Asia-Pacific network that includes Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam.

“This acquisition marks a pivotal milestone for Airwallex as we expand the global reach of our financial platform.”Arnold Chan, General Manager, APAC, Airwallex

Deal terms and financing

Paynuri holds a payment gateway licence, a prepaid electronic payment instrument licence and a foreign exchange business registration. Financial terms were not disclosed. Global business accounts and payment acceptance will be the first products launched, with multi-currency accounts, online and in-store acquiring and spend-management tools planned during 2026.

Market context

The deal came shortly after Airwallex's Series G fundraising, which valued it at $8bn. The company reported $1.2bn of annualised revenue and $266bn of annualised transaction volume as of December 2025, according to Pulse 2.0, and plans to reach about 20 employees in Korea by the end of 2026.
