Why Umios Corporation is buying Pet World International (51%)

Umios called Southeast Asia the fastest-growing pet-food market in Asia and said pet food is a key growth driver. The deal adds dry dog food to its mainly wet cat food range, and PWI will draw on the procurement capabilities of Umios's marine resources division for ingredients.

Deal terms and financing

Umios is buying the 51% stake from Wah Kong Corporation through a newly established holding company, making PWI a specified subsidiary.

Regulatory approvals and timing

The transfer was scheduled for September 2026; Malay Mail reported in October that Umios completed the acquisition in September.

Market context

PWI holds the second-largest share of Malaysia's dog and cat food market and reported net sales of about ¥12.4bn in the year to September 2025. Umios, which changed its name from Maruha Nichiro in March 2026, plans further pet-food investment and acquisitions over the next two years.
