Why MSCI Inc. is buying Compass Financial Technologies SA

MSCI said the deal lets it create, calculate and customise complex multi-asset indexes combining equities, fixed income, commodities, digital assets, currencies and derivatives, including custom indexes with derivative layers. Compass had been a calculation partner for some MSCI indexes, and the deal secures their long-term continuity.

“Over the past eight years, Compass has developed an advanced innovation-driven index calculation platform.”Guillaume Le Fur, Chief Executive, Compass Financial Technologies

Deal terms and financing

Financial terms were not disclosed. MSCI said the acquisition was not expected to have a material financial impact.

Regulatory approvals and timing

MSCI described the platform as already being integrated, and Lenz & Staehelin, which advised MSCI, reported the acquisition on 6 March 2026.

Market context

The purchase follows MSCI's 2024 acquisition of Foxberry, which expanded its index design capabilities; together the two deals support end-to-end custom index solutions.
