Next acquired the Russell & Bromley footwear brand and selected assets on 21 January 2026 in a pre-pack administration sale worth about £3.8m.
Why Next plc is buying Russell & Bromley (brand and selected assets)
The deal continues Next's strategy of buying struggling British brands, following Joules in 2022 and Cath Kidston in 2023, according to City AM. Chief executive Andrew Bromley said the family had decided that selling the brand was the best way to secure its future.
Deal terms and financing
Next paid £2.5m in cash for the brand and three stores in Chelsea, Mayfair and the Bluewater shopping centre, plus £1.3m for part of the stock.
Regulatory approvals and timing
William Wright and Christopher Pole of Interpath were appointed joint administrators by the High Court on 21 January 2026, according to the London Gazette. The 33 stores outside the deal had all closed by July 2026, with about 400 redundancies, according to Retail Gazette.
Market context
Filings showed Russell & Bromley owed £59.3m when administrators were appointed and had accumulated losses of around £20m over the previous two years.
