Servier agreed on 1 June to acquire sevasemten and the muscular dystrophy business of Edgewise Therapeutics for $1.55bn in upfront cash and up to $1.1bn in milestone payments.
Why Servier is buying Edgewise Therapeutics' muscular dystrophy business (sevasemten)
Servier said the purchase gives it an immediate platform in Becker and Duchenne muscular dystrophy, including experienced research, regulatory and commercial staff, in line with its 2030 ambition to become a major player in neuromuscular disease.
“This transaction delivers immediate, significant value — including $1.55 billion upfront — while placing sevasemten with an acquirer that has the global scale, patient commitment, and commercial reach to maximize its potential”
Deal terms and financing
Servier acquires all rights to sevasemten, including intellectual property, key agreements, regulatory filings and clinical data. Edgewise said the upfront proceeds, with existing cash, would fully fund its hypertrophic cardiomyopathy drug EDG-7500 through potential approval.
Regulatory approvals and timing
The sale required expiry of the Hart-Scott-Rodino waiting period. Edgewise announced completion on 13 July 2026.
Market context
After the sale Edgewise's pipeline comprises EDG-7500 for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, EDG-15400 for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction and an undisclosed programme, EDG-003.
