Suzuki Motor agreed on 4 March to acquire the all-solid-state lithium-ion battery business of Kanadevia, the Osaka engineering group formerly known as Hitachi Zosen, with the transfer to take effect on 1 July 2026.
Why Suzuki Motor Corporation is buying Kanadevia Corporation's all-solid-state battery business
Suzuki said it would inherit and further develop Kanadevia's battery technology, which offers high safety, no liquid leakage and operation across a wide temperature range, making it suited to specialised uses such as aerospace and high-temperature or vacuum conditions.
Deal terms and financing
The acquisition price and the business's financial performance, assets and liabilities were not disclosed; payment is in cash.
Regulatory approvals and timing
Execution was subject to customary closing conditions, with an effective date of 1 July 2026 (Suzuki notice, 4 March 2026).
Market context
Kanadevia's AS-LiB cells, in development since 2006, were installed on the exterior of the International Space Station's Kibo module in a JAXA-certified test, according to NewMobility, which noted Suzuki had been absent from the industry's earlier wave of solid-state battery partnerships.
