Alimentation Couche-Tard said on 9 October 2026 that it had agreed to acquire certain retail assets in Québec and Ontario from Irving Oil. The deal covers 52 fuel and convenience sites and 18 commercial cardlock sites. Terms were not disclosed.

Why Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. is buying Irving Oil retail and cardlock assets in Québec and Ontario

Couche-Tard already operates all 52 retail sites. Fifty of them were part of the Québec Alliance with Irving Oil. The company said it knows the markets and customers well and that the deal supports continued investment in its convenience offering.

Deal terms and financing

The transaction also includes fuel supply to 71 Couche-Tard-owned sites in Québec. Of the 18 cardlock sites, 16 are co-located with the retail sites and two are next to existing Couche-Tard stores. Irving Oil's fleet customers will continue to be served at the cardlocks under a long-term agreement.

Regulatory approvals and timing

Closing depends on customary conditions and regulatory approvals, including review under the Competition Act. No timetable was given.

Market context

The sale follows Irving Oil's strategic review, after which the family-owned refiner and retailer decided to remain independent. Couche-Tard is also completing its acquisition of a controlling interest in Poland's Żabka Group.
