Czech investment group Kaprain is acquiring DIY retailer Uni Hobby from Jiří Šimáně's Unimex Group, according to a notice published by the Czech competition authority ÚOHS on 22 October 2026. Terms were not disclosed.

Why KAPRAIN Realty Trade a.s. (Kaprain group) is buying UNI HOBBY, a.s. and UH STORES, a.s.

The filing says KAPRAIN Realty Trade will gain indirect sole control of UNI HOBBY and of UH STORES, a new company that will own the real estate in which Uni Hobby runs its hypermarkets, giving the buyer both the retail operation and its property base.

Deal terms and financing

UH STORES is to be created by splitting off part of UNIMEX GROUP and will receive the store properties. Uni Hobby reported revenue of CZK3.57bn and net profit of CZK261m in 2025, according to ČTK, which said an expert had estimated the price at CZK3bn to CZK5bn when the sale was first reported in June.

Regulatory approvals and timing

ÚOHS opened a simplified procedure on 21 October 2026; third parties had five days from publication to submit objections, and a decision is due within 20 days.

Market context

Uni Hobby runs 11 DIY hypermarkets selling building materials, tools, garden and home products in South Bohemia, Pardubice, South Moravia, Zlín, Vysočina and Karlovy Vary. Kaprain was founded in 2013 by entrepreneur Karel Pražák.
