Liberty Mutual Insurance said on 14 October 2026 that it had agreed to acquire Austral Seguradora, a top-five surety provider in Brazil. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Why Liberty Mutual Insurance is buying Austral Seguradora S.A.
Liberty said the deal will make it one of the largest surety providers in Brazil, which it described as one of the most important insurance markets in Latin America. It plans to keep Austral's portfolio and broker relationships without disruption.
Deal terms and financing
The acquisition covers Austral's surety, financial lines and casualty business. About 100 Austral employees will join Liberty Mutual when the deal closes.
Regulatory approvals and timing
The transaction is subject to regulatory approval.
Market context
Austral, part of Austral Holding Group, has operated in Brazil since 2010. A week later Vinci Compass agreed to buy full ownership of the group's reinsurance arm, AustralRe, which is not part of Liberty's deal.
