Mirae Asset Securities has agreed to buy all of Japanese brokerage Sanko Securities for about KRW47.6bn (about US$36m), the South Korean firm said in a regulatory filing on 29 October 2026.

Why Mirae Asset Securities (via Mirae Asset Securities Holdings (USA) Inc.) is buying Sanko Securities Co., Ltd. (100%)

The deal gives Mirae a Japanese brokerage licence and a channel to sell its Global X exchange-traded funds as foreign financial firms move into Japan's booming stock market, according to KED Global and Nikkei Asia.

Deal terms and financing

Mirae Asset Securities Holdings (USA) will buy the shares under a share purchase agreement. Mirae will contribute ¥12bn to the US unit, part of which will pay for the shares while the rest will be injected into Sanko to expand its business. The investment equals about 0.75% of Mirae's 2025 equity.

Regulatory approvals and timing

Closing is subject to approvals from the relevant authorities and other conditions precedent, and Sanko's board approval is in progress.

Market context

Mirae said in August that it was reviewing Japanese brokerage acquisitions. Nikkei Asia reported that Mirae also plans wider cooperation with Okasan Securities, including selling ETFs to Okasan's customers.
