Valmet has agreed to acquire the manufacturing execution system business of Tieto, a pulp and paper software unit with annual revenue of about €32m, the Finnish groups said on 27 October 2026. The price was not disclosed.

Why Valmet Oyj is buying Tieto's manufacturing execution system (MES) business (TIPS MES)

Valmet said the acquisition completes its Automation Solutions offering for pulp and paper, a strategic priority, by linking production planning and execution with real-time process control to support autonomous mill operations. The business also adds recurring software maintenance and support revenue.

Deal terms and financing

The business comprises Tieto Indtech's TIPS MES and its Order to Cash solution, delivered web-based and as software-as-a-service. It will become part of Valmet's Process Performance Solutions segment.

Regulatory approvals and timing

Completion is expected in the second quarter of 2027, subject to customary closing conditions.

Market context

TIPS MES is a market leader in Europe and is installed at about 300 pulp and paper production sites worldwide. Tieto chief executive Endre Rangnes described Valmet as a strong strategic and industrial owner for the business, and said existing customers would continue to be supported without interruption.
