Blackstone said on 11 May that funds managed by its private equity business had agreed to acquire a majority stake in Skroutz, Greece's leading online marketplace, from CVC Capital Partners Fund VII.
Why Blackstone is buying Skroutz (majority stake)
Blackstone said the deal builds on its conviction in digital consumer platforms, arguing that e-commerce penetration in Greece and south-east Europe remains below western Europe's. It has previously invested in Adevinta and Property Finder.
“Together with the Founders and management team, we have made significant investments in infrastructure, merchant capabilities and customer experience, and successfully evolved from a price-comparison platform into Greece's leading e-commerce marketplace.”
Deal terms and financing
Financial terms were not disclosed. Reports citing Reuters valued Skroutz at €635m including debt. The founders are selling part of their shareholding but retain a stake.
Regulatory approvals and timing
The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
Market context
Founded in 2005 as a price-comparison site, Skroutz has become a vertically integrated marketplace with about 9,000 merchants and 2.5 million active users, its own last-mile logistics, fulfilment, a licensed fintech offering and a retail media arm. It operates in Cyprus and has expanded into Romania and Bulgaria.
