ANWB, the Dutch motoring and travel association, agreed on 16 October 2026 to acquire NextEnergy, an Utrecht-based energy supplier specialising in dynamic electricity contracts. Terms were not disclosed.

Why ANWB is buying NextEnergy

ANWB said that as more members drive electric cars, electricity prices largely determine driving costs. It wants to become a bigger player in the Dutch energy market, and NextEnergy brings its own platform and smart services, such as smart charging of electric cars and home batteries.

Deal terms and financing

ANWB is acquiring all of NextEnergy. The price was not disclosed.

Regulatory approvals and timing

The companies notified the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) on 13 October. ANWB's works council has given positive advice. Until ACM approves the deal, the businesses will operate separately and customers' contracts, terms and apps will not change.

Market context

ANWB Energie has about 200,000 customers on dynamic contracts and NextEnergy about 90,000. The two companies will work out in 2027 how they will operate together after completion.
