SGL Carbon has agreed to sell its former carbon fibre plant at Moses Lake in Washington state to Refactor Moses Lake LLC, a US investment company, for US$70m, the German group said on 23 October 2026.

Why Refactor Moses Lake LLC is buying SGL Carbon Fibers America LLC (former Moses Lake carbon fibre plant, from SGL Carbon)

SGL ended carbon fibre production at Moses Lake in August 2025 as part of the restructuring of its former Carbon Fibers business and its exit from unprofitable activities. The sale monetises the idle site.

Deal terms and financing

The sale of SGL Carbon Fibers America LLC covers the land, buildings and all plant and machinery. The buyer will pay US$45m in 2026 and US$25m in 2027. The equipment was carried at about US$24m at market value in SGL's preliminary third-quarter figures.

Market context

SGL expects a disposal gain of about US$46m before transaction costs in the current financial year. The transaction has no effect on revenue or earnings guidance as a special item, but 2026 free cash flow guidance, previously at the prior-year level, rises by the US$45m received this year.
